About Yupanqui Family

Best Gourmet Peppercorns "PRIMUM FAMILIAE PIPER"

YUPANQUI Meaning

‘Yupanqui” is a Kichwa word and means Memorable, Priceless, or He who Shines. Our Family originates in CUZCO and belongs to an INCA lineage of solid agricultural traditions.

A Peppercorn JOURNEY

Almost 90 years ago, Japanese emigrants introduced ancient black pepper varieties to the Amazonic area. Several years later, our grandfather collected survivors of these first strains and developed a unique blend, which was transferred to the following generations.

Years passed, being unable to be sustainable due to the constant “Guerrilla” threats, and it was at the 90s end of the 90s that the family found a unique Terroir in EQUATOR’S Cloud Forest. The grandfather’s strains, as well as the Incan ancestral techniques, are faithfully used today.

THE BLESSING

For decades, the Yupanqui Family was exporting its best peppercorns along with those of other producers without attracting huge attention because when mixing, the quality was “acceptable” but not that special.

Then, in a twist of fate, everything changed. They realized the treasure they had when in Montreal, the prestigious “hunter of spices” Monsieur Philippe de Vienne tasted the Family harvest and was shocked. Monsieur de Vienne explained they had a fabulous premium peppercorn of “Terroir,” a world-unique black pepper, and that they should strive to keep it that way without contaminating it with the other farmers’ ones.

This precious treasure comes to life thanks to the help of prestigious Chefs and those passionate about the exquisite, for whom The Yupanqui Peppercorns are the World’s Best Gourmet Peppercorns.

The FAMILY

The Yupanqui family’s success lies in their unwavering connection with nature and their strong sense of tradition passed down through generations of farmers.

Their love for the earth is reflected in every aspect of their agricultural black pepper corn activities, from how they tend to their pepper crops to their care in making decisions based on natural elements such as the moon, wind, and sun.

It’s truly inspiring to see how the “Sonkoy” Incan tradition -their love for nature and people- guides their actions and continues to honor their ancestors through their work.

Black Pepper Variety

“Grandpa Lamptok” is more than just a peppercorn blend created by Yupanqui’s grandfather. It is a testament to the art of blending, the beauty of tradition, and the power of innovation. An Ancestral variety to be discovered

Crafted from the old varieties Lampong and Muntok, as well as other arrivals to South America almost a century ago, this blend has stood the test of time and continues to be a beloved addition to kitchens all over the world.

With its unique flavor profile and rich history, the Yupanqui Pepper is more than just a gourmet peppercorn – it is a source of inspiration for all those who seek to create something truly exceptional.

Black Pepper Corn Tutor

The Yupanqui family’s journey of trial and error to achieve the world’s best peppercorns finally led them to two specific types of trees: the “Spondias purpurea” and “Erythrina velutina.” These trees were planted on their land more than 35 years ago, and today, they are used to achieve symbiosis with their precious black pepper plants.

Through years of successes and failures, the Yupanqui family persevered in their search for the perfect combination of trees to nurture their beloved pepper plants. The discovery of these trees unlocked the secret to creating a thriving, symbiotic relationship between the tree and the baby black pepper plant.

As they carefully cultivate this relationship, the tree, and the baby black pepper plant will become one at the turn of two years and remain so for eternity. It’s a beautiful testament to the power of patience and perseverance in the face of adversity and a reminder that sometimes, success is only achieved through the wisdom gained from failure.

Pepper Plants Orientation
